DONATE TO
THE WILDLIFE VICTIMS OF THE GULF OIL
SPILL!
I'm making these
tiles from a painting I created to to reflect my grief over the
worstening oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and its effect on the
wildlife of the area. I'm trying to raise money for the
wildlife affected by the oil spill. All proceeds will go to
non-profit Animal Rescue groups in
Florida. They are 6"x8" and set in a wood frame.
I am selling them for $50 however you may donate as
much as you wish. If you buy one you will
be the lucky owner of a piece of my art and helping a very
important cause! It is called HOMELESS of the Gulf because
there are 600 species that live and thrive and breed in the
Gulf. The Gulf of Mexico is America's Marine Wildlife
nursury and the Gulf oil spill could change that forever.
They will love Ya. KATHY
"The Story
Of The Clown Trigger" I hope you enjoy Howard's story as
much as I did.
As I mentioned, it was 35-40 years ago then I got my first
clown trigger. In those days we still
used under gravel filters, in the
city, at least, for marine tanks. There were no jumbo jets for
quick transportation around the world and fish were collected
and shipped in barrels in the hull of cargo ships. The
death rate was huge and the price for those fish that survived was
hefty. Young and foolish, I paid $2,000 for a clown
trigger (balistes
conspiculum was the nomenclature they used then), because
I has seen it in a book it was love at first sight. When
it arrived, Stephen Spotte, then Director of the Coney Island
Acquarium, called and asked me to donate it to the aquarium because,
according to him, there were less than half a dozen in the
U.S. I laughed and said no. There was only one major
source of marine fish in the area, Acquastock on Warren Street,
and most of the fish fanciers either knew one another or knew of
one another because of our conversations with the sales
clerks. I even got a call from the model Lauren Hutton,
was had just gotten her first cover of a major fashion
magazine. She said she'd drop by to see it, we both lived
in Greenwich Village, but I am still waiting. The glorious
clown trigger, however, expired on the 10th day. I guess I
should have donated it. I'm sure Stephen Spotte would have
kept it alive. Since then, off and on, I have had many clown
triggers; some have lived for years. I have one now that
is about three inches and lives in a 200 gallon tank with a bunch of
other triggers. I plan to watch it grow and when it is too
big, give it away. This one cost a mere $75.
Thanks
again for making my bathroom look like a class act. I'd like
to think I'm the only one in the East Village with a mural in my
bathroom.
Sincerely, Howard
